The City of Olean has a new contract with the SPCA in Cattaraugus County for the following services:
– holding facility for dogs involved in cruelty investigations
– animal control for stray, lost, or abandoned dogs
Please note the City no longer opted to contract with the SPCA for any services involving cats. If you are having issues with cats we recommend you contact your Alderperson and the Mayor so they are aware of the situation.
All calls for stray, lost, and abandoned dogs should be directed through the Olean Police Department. The police department will then contact the SPCA if they want the dog picked up. The SPCA cannot take in stray dogs from the City without prior approval from the Police Dept. Please do not bring them to the SPCA or call the SPCA. You will be directed to the police as this is the process set up in the new city contract.
And finally, just a reminder – we are a private, non-profit organization. We are under no obligation to take in any animals other than those from specific municipal contracts such as the City of Olean and other towns and villages who contract directly with the SPCA. We do take in many other animals when we have funding available. We will continue to do so and ask for your help in our endeavor to save and rescue homeless animals. Your donations are our primary source of funding and we appreciate your support.
